MAKHACHKALA, July 22 (Itar-Tass) — A top-ranking official with Dagestan’s anti-extremism authority has survived an assassination attempt, a source in the republican interior ministry told Itar-Tass on Friday.
According to the source, Colonel Akhmed Bataliyev, the head of Dagestan’s anti-extremism centre, survived the attempt but his two bodyguards were killed.
“Early on Friday, unidentified gunmen disguised as a taxi drove a VAZ-2104 car close to the colonel’s motorcade and opened gunfire at his car and the car of his bodyguards. The colonel survived thanks to armour-plating, his two bodyguards died instantly,” the source said.
An investigation is underway. Police are searching for the assaulters.
