Commission of the African Union chairman Jean Ping will meet with NATO and EU officials in Brussels through April 5 to discuss Libya’s future, a diplomatic source told RIA Novosti on Monday.
The AU Commission has not been consulted about the unrest in Libya, and did not support the UN-mandated air strikes on forces loyal to Col. Muammar Gaddafi.
A pro-democracy uprising that developed into an armed conflict between rebels and Gaddafi’s forces has reached a stalemate, with government troops controlling the capital Tripoli and the west, and rebels controlling the east.
