Airport in Russia’s Far East delays flights due to bomb threat

Five flights were delayed on Wednesday in the airport of the Russian Far East city of Khabarovsk because of a bomb threat, a spokesman from the Far Eastern transport security police said.

“The incident occurred in … ??the airport with a passenger departing to Sheremetyevo [Moscow’s airport],” the spokesman said. While screening, security discovered an object similar to a bomb in the passenger’s carry-on luggage. The man from the Republic of Azerbaijan said that he had a bomb in his bag. He explained that police officers had given him the bomb to check the airport security’s alertness.

“All services were notified immediately and a decision to evacuate passengers from [the area] was taken,” the spokesman said.

Bomb-disposal experts found that the passenger had a pushing rod for reloading cartridges and more than two kilograms (around four pounds) of shot packed in plastic bags.

Police are investigating the circumstances of the accident.
