Anzhi superstar Samuel Eto’o says he doesn’t exclude the possibility of switching from Makhachkala to French side PSG. Meanwhile, Tottenham attacker Gareth Bale may be on his way to replace the Cameroonian.
According to French media, Paris Saint-Germain, who have no lack in funding after being purchased by Qatar Investment Authority, are really interested in Eto’o’s services.
The Cameroonian’s friendly relations with PSG coach Leonardo also add fuel to the rumors.
“If such opportunity arises, I will consider it,” Eto’o told Canal+. “But right now it’s impossible. I regularly talk with Leonardo, but we haven’t touched upon this issue. I have no intention to return to Europe now, I like it in Russia.”
The club from Paris have made several huge buys this summer, with the €42 million transfer of Argentinean talent Javier Pastore from Palermo topping the list.
Samuel Eto’o became the world’s highest paid footballer, with an annual salary of over €20 million, after joining Anzhi from Inter Milan this August. According to the contract, the 30-year-old will stay in Russia’s Republic of Dagestan till 2014.
But even if the Makhachkala side part ways with the Cameroonian, they’ll have few problems finding a replacement.
British Metro daily reports that Anzhi have an eye on Tottenham and Wales winger, Gareth Bale.
The paper doesn’t reveal any details of the proposal, which is expected in the winter, only saying that it’s going to be “unbelievable”.
The 23-year-old, who scored 19 goals in 125 games for Spurs, was named the best player of the 2010/11 season by the English Professional Footballers’ Association.
Anzhi currently sits eighth in the Russian Premier League, which will allow them to battle for the crown in the round-robin campaign in spring.
