Ceremonies have been launched in Australia to mark the 190th anniversary of the discovery of Antarctica. The “;white”; continent was discovered by the Russian explorers Faddey Bellinsgauzen and Mikhail Lazarev in 1820. They were the first to reach and circumnavigate Antarctica during their expedition aboard the Vostok and Mirny ships.
