Chechnya seeks to get children out of Lithuanian home

The Chechen authorities are currently collecting documents to bring back home six Chechen children from a Lithuanian children’s home, Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov said on his official website on Friday.

The Chechen couple the Gatayevs and six of their adoptive children fled Chechnya in the 1990s and went to Lithuania. Lithuanian social workers later accused the Gatayevs of neglecting their children and treating them badly. The couple were deprived of their parental rights and the children were put in a social asylum.

“We are holding talks on this case, preparing the necessary documents. Hope, Lithuania will be satisfied with the documents we submit and the issue will be solved,” Kadyrov said.
