Chubais to head Moscow Phystech’s innovative economy chair

MOSCOW, September 1 (Itar-Tass) — The Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) will open a new chair on technological entrepreneurship. The board chairman of the JSC ROSNANO (Russian Nanotechnology Corporation) Anatoly Chubais will head the new division at the MIPT.

The chair will “train young researchers in the sphere of applied mathematics and physics, capable of commercializing the results of their scientific achievements,” ROSNANO’s official told Itar-Tass.

“The joint scientific and educational project to set up a ROSNANO interfaculty chair will start in early September,” the official said.

According to MIPT Rector Nikolai Kudryavtsev, “The project is designed for merging fundamental and applied sciences and modern hi-tech businesses.”

Traditionally senior MIPT students undergo on-the-job training at laboratories in various research institutes. The new chair will give students an opportunity to engage in research at high technology industrial companies.

Along with research and preparation of the master’s thesis the chair’s students will be expected to draft investments proposals for converting their ideas into business projects.
