In Egypt the Supreme Military Council announced on Wednesday that a provisional constitution was taking effect opening the way to parliamentary and presidential elections.
The March 19 referendum overwhelmingly approved proposed constitutional amendments.
According to the new law, the presidential term in office is down to four years from six and a new provision bans someone from holding the position more than two consecutive times.
Parliamentary elections in Egypt are slated for not later than September 2011 and presidential ones – before January.
