Federer sends home Russia’s Youzhny in 2011 Wimbledon last 16

Mikhail Youzhny, the only remaining Russian in men’s singles at the 2011 Wimbledon, has left the tournament in Britain after he was defeated by Roger Federer of Switzerland.

In the Last 16 match on Monday that lasted 3 hours and 2 minutes the 18th-seed Russian lost to Federer (3rd-seed) 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 3-6, 3-6.

“I thought even though I lost the first set it was good tennis,” Federer said after the match. “I thought overall we played a good match from start to finish. Good rallies, good atmosphere, it was fun.”

In his quarterfinal match, Federer will fight for the spot in the semifinals against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France.

The 2011 Wimbledon runs between June 20 and July 3 and has $8.5 million of prize money up for grabs.
