Law enforcement agencies have detained 53 militants and 85 militant accomplices in the Russian North Caucasus republics of Chechnya and Dagestan since the start of the year, the Interior Ministry reported on Friday.
“A total of 455 firearms, more than 90,000 rounds of ammunition and 365 grenades have been seized,” the ministry said.
More that a decade after the end of a federal war against separatists in Chechnya, Russian security forces continue to fight militants, who stage frequent attacks on security forces, police and civilians, in other regions in the area, including Dagestan.
