PSKOV, Russia — An explosion at a mobile artillery complex in western Russia has killed four soldiers and severely injured another, RFE/RL’s Russian Service reports.
The accident took place during military exercises by the 106th Tula division of Russia’s airborne troops in Pskov Oblast on April 13.
The four soldiers killed were all young conscripts drafted from the Kostroma, Ryazan, and Tula oblasts.
The commander of the 106th Tula division, General Vladimir Kochetkov, arrived in the region to supervise an investigation of the accident and allegations of “abuse of weaponry usage regulations.”
Russia’s military laws say people responsible for abusing the use of weaponry face up to 10 years in jail.
