Germans No Longer Equate America With ‘Freedom’, See China as Rising Superpower — Poll

A Pew Research Center report has revealed that 53 percent of Germans do not believe that the U.S. government respects the freedoms of its own people. The poll also found that

Though in the U.S. most (51 percent) said their government respected personal freedoms, 47 percent disagreed.

The poll also showed that 45 percent of Germans polled had negative views of the U.S., compared to 50 percent who had positive views.

When you consider that the NSA spied on Germany’s leader, or that the U.S. military uses Germany as a launchpad for illegal wars and bombing campaigns all over the world, it’s actually surprising these numbers aren’t higher. Regardless, Germans have already sensed a change in the wind:

Most Germans also said that they believed China will – or has already – become a bigger superpower than the United states, with 37 percent saying China could never replace the US.

Germany is America’s prize vassal pony, and yet public opinion is rapidly turning against Washington. In 2000, 80 percent of Germans viewed the U.S. favorably.

Obama could actually leave office with a majority of Germans holding negative views of the U.S. Quite an accomplishment.
