Greece’s withdrawal from the euro zone would not be a wise decision, a German government spokesman said on Monday.
“An exit from the euro zone would not be a sensible decision for Greece. That cannot be the solution,” Steffen Seibert said.
Such a move would be “a bad sign” for the European Currency Union, he said.
On Wednesday, the Greek parliament is to vote on a new program of austerity measures. The country is to approve further cuts to win the last $17 billion of a $156 billion debt crisis relief package from its European neighbors.
On July 3, EU finance ministers will vote on whether to approve the final bailout tranche.
