A senior investigation editor of Mumbai’s leading tabloid, Mid-Day has been shot dead on Saturday, the tabloid said on its web site.
According to the police, Jyotirmoy Dey was shot dead in Mumbai’s suburb by four unidentified men riding two motorcycles.
“It is hard to say what exactly was the reason of the murder. He had not written a single sensational story over the recent months,” Dey’s friend, an editor of Indian daily told RIA Novosti.
Mid-Day said citing the police sources that Dey was reportedly receiving death threats from the local mafia.
The journalist had been specializing on covering the stories on the Mumbai’s underworld for over two decades. He had contacts both in criminal circles and police.
He is also the author of two books on Mumbai’s underworld.
