Ischenko and Co bring Russia 5th gold in Shanghai

Natalia Ischenko and her nine teammates have won the Free Combination gold medal at the World Aquatics Championships in Shanghai. China took the silver and Canada the bronze.

Team Russia breezed to victory with an almost perfect record of 98.470 points. The opponents were left far behind with 96.360 and 96.150 points respectively.

This was the 14th victory for Russia’s star leader Natalia Ischenko, who claimed all four gold medals she competed for in Shanghai.

The result means Russia has come a bit closer to the medal table leaders China. The hosts have so far earned seven gold, seven silver and one bronze medal. Russia is trailing with five gold medals, one silver and one bronze respectively. Greece is third with a gold and a bronze.

With the main swimming competitions ahead, the championship is due to continue until July 31.
