Authorities in Miyagi Prefecture in northeastern Japan say they have counted close to 300 bodies in areas hit by Friday’s tsunami. Dozens of people remain unaccounted for. The wave, of over ten metres in places, swept away buildings, vehicles, a passenger train and a dam. There were two fires at nuclear power plants, and one is still burning.
