Japanese Grand Prix postponed due to security fears

MotoGP organizers have called off next month’s Grand Prix in Japan.

The country is currently dealing with the catastrophic effects of an earthquake, tsunami and radiation leaks from nuclear plants.

International Motorcycling Federation spokeswoman Isabelle Larivier told the Associated Press that the event had been postponed until later in the season.

It was to be staged at the Motegi circuit north of Tokyo on April 24.

Last year the event was also rescheduled from April to October following the eruption of a volcano in Iceland, which caused numerous air travel disruptions.
