Lawyers for alleged international arms trafficker Viktor Bout will seek his return to Thailand from the United States, where he was extradited in November 2010, lawyer Lac Nitiwat Wichan said on Monday.
“We believe that the extradition was unlawful and that this situation must be rectified. Those who have violated the law should answer for this,” he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
“As for Viktor, he should return here [to Thailand] to complete the judicial procedure.”
He said there were several legitimate ways to do this, but did not elaborate.
Russian national Bout, 44, is being held in a New York prison as he awaits trial in October on charges including conspiring to supply arms to terrorist groups and conspiring to kill U.S. nationals. He denies any wrongdoing.
