Lokomotiv have stopped Atlant from becoming the first team through to the Gagarin Cup finals.
Moscow region outfit Atlant were aiming for a fourth consecutive win – a victory which would have captured the Western Conference title. But Loko had other ideas. They finally made good on their pre-series favorites tag to edge a close contest 4-2.
After the first two close periods, which ended with Lokomotiv leading 1-0 courtesy of Ivan Tkachenko, the third period turned into a real goal fest. But before hosts Atlant managed to put their player’s name on the scoreboard, they were trailing 3-0.
Their two late goals and Lokomotiv’s last-second empty net-response just entertained the crowd, as the final result was already decided.
Lokomotiv move closer to Atlant in the series, 1-3. Action continues Thursday in another game that the Yaroslavl team must win.
