Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has indicated that he would not run against Vladimir Putin in presidential elections next year.
In an interview published today in the “Financial Times” in London, Medvedev denied there was a “growing gap” between him and Putin, who is prime minister.
Describing Putin as his “colleague and old friend,” Medvedev said both men represented, “to a large extent, one and the same political force.”
He rejected speculation that both might compete in next year’s polls as “hard to imagine.”
