Metallurg crack Salavat at home

Metallurg are just one win behind Salavat Yulaev in their best-of-seven series in the Gagarin Cup semis, following a 2-1 overtime success in Magnitogorsk on Monday.

­After a cautious first period, the teams exchanged goals at the start of the second 20 minutes.

Aleksey Kaigorodov put the hosts in front three and a half minutes into the period, but veteran Viktor Kozlov leveled the score for Salavat less than two minutes later.

The third period was scoreless and the teams headed to overtime, in which Metallurg achieved the upper hand.

Tomas Rolinek set up Pavel Zdunov for the winning effort with 2 minutes and 54 seconds played in the extra 20 minutes.

Game 4 of the tie is to take place at Metallurg Arena on Wednesday, March 30.  

Atlant Moscow region enjoy a commanding 3-0 lead in their series against Lokomotiv Yaroslavl in the other semifinal.
