MOSCOW, July 31 (Itar-Tass) — Mineralnye Vody airport has been closed as an artillery shell has been found near the runway, the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya) told Itar-Tass.

A 122-mm WW2 shell was found at 11:50 MSK, Sunday, during excavation works 50 meters from the runway.

“At 12:30 MSK the airport was closed for arriving and departing aircraft,” a spokesman for Rosaviatsiya said. According to him, sapper teams were expected to arrive there at around 13:20 MSK for defusing the ammunition.

“For the time of the airport’s closure the arriving aircraft will be redirected to alternate airfields,” said the official.
