A monument to Russian sailors will appear in Sicily.
A 4-meter toll statue of a sailor holding a child in his hands, the work of sculptor Vasily Selivanov, will be adorn the port city of Messina as a token of gratitude to Russian sailors who rescued more than 2,000 local residents in December 1908 when a tsunami caused by a powerful earthquake that struck the northeastern coast of Sicily, killing more than 100,000 people.
