Moscow mayor’s wife has nothing to do with paving campaign – spokeswoman

MOSCOW, August 6 (Itar-Tass) —— Press secretary to the Moscow mayor has refuted media allegations that the mayor’s wife owns paving tiles businesses.

“She is neither a founder nor a shareholder in any commercial organizations,” Gulnara Penkova told Itar-Tass on Saturday.

The comment came after media reports that the wife of Moscow’s current mayor, Sergei Sobyanin, owns a paving tile manufacturing company, which has been contracted to pave Moscow streets as the city authorities launched a large-scale paving campaign.

It was initially planned to pave 1.140 million square meters of pavements in Moscow before fall but later the authorities decided to slow down to have the work done more thoroughly.

“The mayor has repeatedly said in public that his wife has nothing to do with commercial activities,” Penkova said. “The list of all firms contracted to pave Moscow streets has been published on the federal website of state procurements.”

“Everything is utterly transparent,” she stressed.
