Nationalist Group Leader Arrested in Moscow

MOSCOW, April 15 (RIA Novosti) – A Moscow court sanctioned the arrest of a nationalist movement leader and two of its members for allegedly assaulting and robbing a fellow right-wing activist, the Interior Ministry reported on Monday.

Georgy Borovikov, a leader of the Russkiye (Russians) pro-nationalist organization, was detained along with two of his group’s members after a man from the Siberian city of Ulan-Ude filed a police report accusing them of the crime.

Moscow police discovered the victim’s passport and a charred knife which was allegedly used to torture the man, when they searched Borovikov’s apartment in the center of the capital.

Several fake passports were also found at Borovikov’s apartment, the police said.

A video featuring scenes of violence against the man, whose name was not disclosed, was posted online and later deleted, the police said in a statement.

The alleged victim joined the nationalist group last year, during the Occupy Abay opposition picket in Moscow in which the Russkiye movement took part.

Borovikov, an active organizer of nationalist rallies since 2005, formerly headed the far-right Pamyat movement and took part in annual Russian March nationalist demonstrations.
