One child died and another was injured after a fire broke out in a two-storey residential building in the republic of Yakutia, in Russia’s Far East, a spokesman for the local emergencies ministry’s department said on Thursday.
He said the fire broke out shortly after 3.00 a.m. local time on the second floor of the building and was extinguished after two and a half hours. Sixty two people and 16 firefighting trucks were involved in the relief operation.
After the fire was put out, the spokesman said, rescuers discovered a body of a nine-year old boy. A three-year old boy received multiple burns and was hospitalized in serious condition.
Experts are trying to establish all details of the tragic incident and the cause of the fire, he added.
