One civilian dead in road traffic accident with NATO convoy in Kabul

One civilian died and two more were injured after a convoy of three NATO vehicles ran into a group of pedestrians in Kabul on Wednesday, the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said in a statement.

“An International Security Assistance Force three-vehicle convoy was involved in an accident in Kabul today in which one Afghan civilian was killed and two wounded, according to initial reporting,” the statement said.

It also added that “no shots were fired by ISAF service members.”

Earlier reports said that after the road traffic accident the troops, who were allegedly British soldiers, attempted to flee the scene and shot dead another civilian, who tried to stop them.

ISAF said that a nearby patrol “provided a security cordon while first aid was administered” and as the injured were taken in a civilian car to a hospital.

Civilians killed by ISAF troops in Afghanistan have been long a source of major tension between the country’s president, Hamid Karzai, and his Western allies.
