Only 9 Percent of Russians to Celebrate Halloween – Poll

Only nine percent of Russians said they plan to celebrate Halloween, one of the world’s oldest and most commercialized holidays, a new poll by Levada Center revealed on Tuesday.

According to the pollster, 64 percent of the respondents said they had no plans to party dressed as ghosts, zombies or witches, while 27 percent said they have never heard of the holiday.

Education officials and religious figures have fueled fears about Halloween celebrations, which date to Pagan times. The celebrations were banned at schools in South Russia’s Krasnodar Territory.

The poll, conducted on October 19-22, involved 1,600 residents with the margin of error not exceeding 3.4 percentage points.
