Opposition Blogger Navalny Released, Detained Again

Anti-corruption blogger and opposition figurehead Alexei Navalny, held during an unsanctioned rally in downtown Moscow and released on Wednesday, was detained again.

Navalny, along with 12 supporters, was detained for taking part in an unauthorized peaceful protest against Vladimir Putin’s return to presidency near the downtown Kitai-Gorod metro station. In total, about 200 people were detained on Tuesday, Moscow police said.

Early on Wednesday Lawyer Nikolai Polozov said in his Twitter account that “Navalny and others (12 people) are free” and are haeding to Barrikadnaya, a central Moscow subway station where the peaceful protest, which Navalny described as an “ongoing day-and-night folk festivity,’ continues.

A RIA Novosti correspondent reported from the site of the peaceful protest that Navalny was detained second time on Wednesday morning.
