We can not
allow civilians to become the victims of military action against the regime of
Muammar Gaddafi of Libya.
This was stated by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in
a telephone conversation with U.S. President Barack Obama. They discussed the
situation surrounding Libya reported the Kremlin press service on Thursday
night.
According to President Medvedev,
the priority in Libya must be the goals identified by the UN Security Council
resolution. Chief among them being the protection of civilians.
The leaders of
Russia and the United States also discussed the negotiations on accession of
Russia to the WTO and exchanged views on the European missile defense system.
The conversation was initiated by the Russian side.
