Britain’s Prince Harry will have to spend at least one more day in the Arctic where he has been on an expedition with British veterans, the expedition organizers said on Thursday.
The 26-year-old prince was to leave the Russian Barneo Arctic base of on Thursday, but cracks in the ice closed down the airport runway, making it unable for planes to take off, the Walking With The Wounded charity said.
Workers are currently clearing snow from another part of the runway to allow the prince to return to Britain and continue his military service, the organizers said.
Harry is expected to fly out within 48 hours, but the situation could change because of the “unpredictable nature of conditions in the Arctic,” the organizers said.
The incident comes ahead of the April 29 marriage of Harry’s older brother, William, at which the younger prince is to be best man.
