In Libya, government troops loyal to Muammar Gaddafi are preparing to storm the city Zenten, which has been in rebel hands for already a month. According to the satellite channel Al-Jazeera, the troops are heading towards the town from two directions so as to encircle it.
The first attempt to storm the town was made on Wednesday, but the rebels managed to repulse the attack. Zenten, located 145 kilometers southwest of Tripoli, was the first settlement seized by the rebels in mid-February.
In the last few days government forces have been carrying out a large-scale operation in the east of Libya against the rebellious cities.
