Putin warns against changes in Russian administrative borders

It is unacceptable to re-divide disputed borders between Russian Federation components because that could trigger a chain reaction, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday.

“We have 2,000 potential territorial disputes in Russia, including between some North Caucasus republics, even between very closely related ethnic groups,” he said.

No matter what, this can of worms must not be opened, he said.

“The moment we start dividing something, we will never stop,” Putin said at a meeting with youth groups.
