Radwanska shatters Zvonareva’s title dreams in Tokyo

Poland’s Agnieszka Radwanska has left Vera Zvonareva no chance, beating the Russian in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, to win the Pan Pacific Open.

The ninth-seeded Radwanska was 2-0 down early in the first set, but recovered quickly.

She stormed back to take a 5-2 lead on her way to winning the first set when Zvonareva had 22 unforced errors.

In the second set, Zvonareva continued to lose points to her opponent and let the Pole win her second title of the year.

As a result, Zvonareva, who had overcome a 5-1 deficit against Petra Kvitova on Friday in the semifinals, was unable to stage another turnaround in the final.

“I felt like I started out well and then something happened,” AP quotes Zvonareva as saying afterwards. “It was not me on the court anymore. I will think about it and try to figure out what happened but it’s one of those things that can happen to anyone.”
