The driverless vehicle project being developed at KamAZ, a leading Tatarstan-based truck manufacturer in the former Soviet Union, in collaboration with Cognitive Technologies (an IT developer), and MISiS, a leading Russian technology university based in Moscow, has received positive expert response from a group of the world’s most prominent scientists who are members of MISiS’ International Scientific Council, portal Cnews.ru reported.
The Council members reportedly gave a high appraisal of the “timeliness and potential” of the effort, and also underscored some competitive advantages the Tatarstan project has over competitors like Google and others.
The MISiS Council brings together top-notch scientists representing the Universities of Cambridge, Stanford, Toronto; also the Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden; the Technische Universität München in Munich, Germany; the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology; and some others.
A final document signed by Prof. Harry Ruda of the University of Toronto, Canada, who heads his university’s Nanotech Center, is reported to conclude that a computer vision model chosen by the Tatarstan project participants makes it possible to boost the proficiency of decision-making in real time.
