A rescue operation is under way for a Russian fishing ship that went adrift in the Sea of Japan after briefly catching fire in the early hours of Thursday, a rescuer coordinator said.
The Ardatov vessel, which has 53 crew members on board, is drifting some 90 miles off the coast of Russia’s Far Eastern Primorsky Territory.
A rescue tug approached the vessel at about 10 am local time on Thursday (23:00 GMT, Wednesday).
The fire, which the crew managed to put out, left the ship without power.
No one was reported injured. There has been no evidence of an oil leak, according to the ship’s captain.
