Street cleaners found a baby African crocodile at a construction site in St. Petersburg, local media reported Thursday.
The reptile, which is half a meter long and some four days old, was brought to a public utility office, put in an aquarium and fed fresh beef, the Fontanka.ru news site said.

The office’s employees asked the St. Petersburg zoo to take the animal, whose appearance at the construction site still remains a mystery.
But the zoo refused to take the reptile for now, citing a lack of conditions for keeping a crocodile that can grow up to five meters long.
