Russia, US to Boost Law Enforcement Cooperation

WASHINGTON, May 24 (RIA Novosti) – Russia and the United States may set up joint working groups to counter emerging crime threats, Russia’s Interior Minister said at the end of a working visit to the United States.

US and Russian officials agreed the two nations need to create working groups to help stand against “new international challenges and threats,” including cyber-crime, sexual exploitation of minors and smuggling, Kolokoltsev said at the end of his visit on Thursday.

He made the statement after meeting the head of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Robert Mueller, and US Department of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano, earlier this week.

“As well as our US colleagues, we see a lot of areas of common interest in cooperation between the Interior Ministry and FBI,” Kolokoltsev told reporters.
