Russian Automaker Builds 27 Millionth Car

The 27 millionth car on Wednesday came off the assembly line at the AvtoVAZ plant in Togliatti, the press service of Russia’s largest carmaker said.

The milestone car was a Lada Priora hatchback. AvtoVAZ President Igor Komarov and the governor of Samara Region, where the city of Togliatti is located, were present in the assembly hall when the car rolled off the line.

AvtoVAZ began producing the Lada Priora in 2007.

AvtoVAZ is 25% owned by Renault-Nissan, which is moving closer to gaining control of Russia’s largest car maker. It is creating a joint venture with state corporation Russian Technologies and investment company Troika Dialog to take over majority interest.

The joint venture will hold 74.5% of AvtoVAZ when the transaction is completed by mid-2014.
