Russian clubs kick off Europa League campaign with away wins

It was a good night’s work in Europe for Russian sides Rubin Kazan and Lokomotiv Moscow. Both bagged away wins in their opening group games in the Europa League.

Rubin had a comfortable 3-0 win over Shamrock Rovers in Dublin.

Obafemi Martins put the visitors ahead after just three minutes.

And, despite Nelson Valdez missing a penalty late in the first-half, Cristian Noboa put them 2-0 up, five minutes into the second half. .

Gekdeniz Karadeniz added a third after an hour.

Elsewhere, Lokomotiv came from behind to defeat Sturm Graz in Austria. The game was delayed for almost an hour due to problems with light fixtures at the stadium.

Hardly had the game started than the hosts forged ahead thanks to Imre Szabic. But goals from Victor Obinna and Dmitry Sichyov gave the Russians all three points.
