Russian NGO May Be Nominated for Nobel Peace Prize

BRUSSELS, March 29 (RIA Novosti) – European parliament members have launched a campaign to collect signatures for nominating a prominent Russian human rights group, Memorial, for the Nobel Peace Prize, the press service of the European People’s Party (EPP) said on Thursday.

The campaign will be coordinated by EPP members from Poland, Roza Thun and Krzysztof Lisek of Poland.

The deadline for candidacy submission to the Nobel Committee is late January 2014.

In 2009, the European Parliament awarded its Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought to Memorial and its three representatives: Oleg Orlov, Sergei Kovalyov and Lyudmila Alexeyeva.
