YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, March 28 (RIA Novosti) – Police and FSB operatives in Russia’s Far East arrested two Chinese nationals suspected of selling illegal eavesdropping and covert surveillance devices, the FSB office in the Sakhalin region said on Thursday.
The men allegedly sold ball pens equipped with recording devices, car key fobs and wristwatches with miniature video cameras at a shopping center in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.
“The prices ranged from 1,100 rubles ($35) to 2,500 rubles ($80),” an FSB spokesman said, adding that the sales of these “spy gadgets” are banned in Russia.
The Chinese men, whose identity has not been revealed, also offered a limited warranty on these devices.
The suspects are facing a trial in Russia and up to four years in jail if convicted.
