Internationally-acclaimed violinist Igor Yuzefovich is to become concertmaster of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. The celebrated musician will officially step in his post on January 1, 2012.
Itar-Tass new agency reports that the orchestra has no close touring plans. Igor Yuzefovich said that visits of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra to Russia are also unlikely as the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra has lost its Artistic Director and Chief Conductor. Dutch maestro Edo de Waart, who has headed the orchestra since the 2004-2005 season, recently left his post.
Yuzefovich made an amazing musical career. Born into a family of a prominent violist and musicologist, he began his violin studies at the age of five, graduated from the Gnessin Music School, and studied in the US at Peabody Institute and the Peabody Conservatory. Until recently Yuzefovich has been occupying the post of assistant concertmaster at the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.
Concerts have taken the winner of numerous international competitions to many countries around the world, including Canada, the UK, Russia, France, Israel, Jordan and South Africa.
The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, founded in 1895, is one of Asia’s leading symphony ensembles. It currently features around 100 international musicians.
