Russians synthesize new chemical element

A new, 116th, element may appear in the Mendeleev system. The element has been synthesized in the United Institute of Nuclear Research, based near Moscow.

This was revealed by the institute’s Deputy Director Mikhail Itkis, who also said that the new element will most probably very soon be officially recognized by the International Union of Theoretical and Applied Chemistry. The name that the Russian scientists suggest for the new element is “Moscowiy”.
