Scents and sensibility: top US designer in praise of Russian women

Last week in Moscow could have been easily declared the week of Tom Ford, as one of the world’s most celebrated fashion designers was in the spotlight for several days at various events.

Ford not only opened his first store in Russia, but also attended the GQ magazine awards, where he was named International Man of the Year.

The designer created a real buzz in the capital when he showed up at one of Moscow’s main department stores, TsUM, to sign autographs on his new perfume called Violet Blonde.

Blondes, brunettes and red-heads alike were clearly excited, and the affection seemed to be mutual.

“When I think of Russian woman and Russian man, I think of a certain strength and a certain pride,” Tom Ford told RT. “There were so many beautiful women coming up, and I said to them, ‘You’re so beautiful,’ and they all said, ‘That’s because I’m Russian.’ I like that attitude.”
