Siberia Man Demands Lethal Drug Injection in Hostage Standoff

MOSCOW, January 19 (RIA Novosti) – Police arrested a man in Siberia’s Irkutsk Region after he stormed a hospital, took hostages and demanded a lethal injection of drugs, the local branch of the Interior Ministry said Saturday.

Police say the 51-year-old man barged into a hospital in the city of Bratsk with a hunting rifle and took five patients and one doctor hostage.

The man demanded a lethal injection of unspecified narcotics, possibly because of his long battle with drug addiction, according to police.

He was detained shortly after, and the hostages were released. No injuries were reported.

Police are preparing a criminal case against the man, who has reportedly faced criminal charges in the past. He may face charges of hostage-taking, illegal production of a weapon, and robbery, police said.
