Strategy-31 protests held in Moscow, St. Petersburg

Strategy-31 held unsanctioned protest rallies in Moscow and St. Petersburg on Monday, RIA Novosti correspondents reported from the scene.

Russian opposition groups hold rallies in Moscow, St. Petersburg and other cities on the last day of each month that has 31 days in defense of their right to freedom of assembly, as enshrined in Article 31 of the Russian Constitution.

About 50 protesters gathered in downtown Moscow’s Triumfalnaya Square. Police detained at least 10 of them.

St. Petersburg backers of the opposition movement tried to march down through Nevsky Prospect – the city’s central avenue, to Dvortsovaya Square, but police blocked their efforts.

Police officials were not immediately available to comment.
