Police fired live ammunition and tear gas on Wednesday at thousands of Syrians marching towards the country’s southern city of Deraa.
We have no immediate word about anyone killed or injured though.
The city is teeming with security forces and agents allowed to shoot to kill by the authorities, who say there are criminal gangs on the loose there. State media report that police have neutralized several extremist groups.
Meanwhile, local rights activists say many opposition-minded public figures have been arrested in various parts of the country.
