Discussions are underway to bring a leading European football club to Chechnya to mark the opening of a new stadium in Grozny, Terek FC vice-president Khaidar Alkhanov said on Tuesday.
The game is due to take place on May 9, World War Two Victory Day in Russia.
“There has been no final decision as to which club will take part in the game,” Alkhanov said. “It’s possible Juventus or Manchester City or even Barcelona will come. Talks are taking place,” he said.
Grozny recently saw a controversial exhibition match between former Brazilian World Cup stars and a Chechen side handpicked and captained by the republic’s leader, Ramzan Kadyrov.
Kadyrov, a former militant who has been accused of human rights abuses, scored two as his team lost 6-4 to a Brazilian side featuring Romario and Dunga.
Terek are managed by former Dutch international Ruud Gullit.
