Theft rate in Moscow metro 36% up in 2011.

MOSCOW, July 26 (Itar-Tass) —— The theft rate in the Moscow metro grew by over a third, 36.4%, this year to 1,131, Sergei Zheltkov from the Moscow city investigation department said on Tuesday.

In all, the metro had 1,896 crimes this year, including over 20 assaults and robberies. Sixty-three percent of all crimes are not violent.

Mostly, pickpockets operate in peak hours. The majority of stolen items are cell phones passengers are playing games or reading books on.

The crime rate is the highest at the Komsomolskaya station, as well as at other stations of the circular line.
